Happy New Year!

One New Year's Eve ritual is the "Dinner for One". I actually used to watch it together with my grandpa and it's a nice memory...

...and now me and the poker girls are off for champagne and "Krapfen" with friends!

Dear Santa...

a little wishlist to Santa Claus... including this gorgeous pin-up dress by Bernie Dexter with cherry prints.
The earrings and cute hats are made by Frollein von Sofa and the red blazer and jumpsuit are by Max&Co and fit perfect in the colour theme.
For the ones who prefer it less bright red I found a nice combination of purple and green and leopard patterns. The clothes and shoes are again from Max&Co. The leopard hat by Frollein von Sofa and the lace leggins by Malene Birger.
Let's see, if I was a good girl!

Copenhagen favourites

Regarding Scandinavian Design Denmark and Finland are my favourite countries, because of their elegance and creativity.
I was just on a little holiday in Copenhagen and here are my favourite designers.

by Malene Birger
For clothing, I liked Malene Birger with a very feminine and elegant collection. I have bought a striped shirt there which somehow reminded me of Coco Chanel. I have seen couple of beautiful dresses in 20's style with sequins and pearls, a lot of lace and simple colour contrasts in black and white.

Also elegant, but with a hint of ethno touch, are the clothes from Munthe plus Simonsen, which also have a home collection with nice accessoires and pillows.
But unfortunately the bag is never big enough!

Norman Copenhagen
Then there are a lot of Danish furniture classics. One big name in architecture and design is Arne Jacobsen who was very active in the 60s and who is famous for his chairs.
But I also especially like Muuto Design and Norman Copenhagen for their playfull modern design. I actually have one of the lamps in the picture in my living room.

something to melt away

Sometime there are cover songs which are better than the original: "Bad Romance" by 30 Seconds To Mars.

...and I just had this style image in my mind, girl with a hat and red lipstick...

hundreds of sequins

I found this sequin shorts on my little weekend holiday and couldn't resist...

I have a couple of styles in mind, I will show you later. Right now I will browse through my closet and search for matching pieces!
And I think red shoes and lighter stockings with a seam would be just perfect for this outfit...

a hint of 50's style

My pencil skirt has arrived and it is great. The shape and length is just perfect! So I took a couple of pictures to experiment with different kind of styles. The first combination is perfect for the evening with the red rose top and the fitting make-up.

The following styles are held elegantly in black with a hint of colour through the flashy green belt in reptile optic on the left and the flower corsage on the right side.

The skirt is from Bernie Dexter and she has a couple of nice things in pin-up style, I have an eye on!

Egg Nogg for 4:
4 egg yolks
2 eggs
150g sugar
juice and peel of one lemon
250ml water
500ml white wine
125ml white rum

1. add all ingredients except the rum into a pot and heat it until it starts to raise, but be careful not to boil it.
2. add the rum before serving

Brioche perdue:
250ml red wine (Bourgogne or Alsace pinot noir)
1 tea spoon cinnamon
8 slices of Brioche

50g icing sugar

blue, blue, blue.... into your eyes blue

Today my friend is giving a cocktail party and I was experimenting with some outfits. The decision is made now. It will be my blue silk dress from BOSS Orange which I bought last year on a short visit to Berlin during a business trip. If you are in Berlin check out their store, Because I liked their interior concept especially for the changing rooms!

I combine the blue look with golden accessories and dark eyes. It gives it a little bit more glamour!
P.S. I will show you the other outfits later next week!

Pin-Up Artist Gil Elvgren

A great source of inspiration are also pin-up artists like Gil Elvgren. From the mid 1930's through 1972, Elvgren produced over five hundred paintings of beautiful girls and women, which put a smirk in everyone's face.

red and white

...as my blog title indicates, you have ended up on a page of a girl who loves everything red, so I thought I will show you my favourite pieces now.

Having a look into my closet you can find a red dress for every season and occasion. The left one is a lovely silk dress from BOSS, next to it comes a red corsage with polka dots from Jungbluth-Design in Hamburg and on the left side a woolen dress again from BOSS.

The book shown in the middle is called "Be burlesque". I have bought it after the Paris trip, because it has beautiful and inspiring pictures of french burlesque artists.

As make-up suggestion red lips and nails are a must! Nothing is more sensual than a cherry mouth.
But red lips are a bit tricky, so please use a pencil to outline the lips first, starting in the middle. After having filled out the whole lip, start applying the real colour of your choice.
And yes, I even have red chairs. They are actually vintage Alvar Aalto chairs from the 40s.

But before you can experiment new looks on your own, here a song from another lady in red:

overcoats

As the cold season is just about to start and we solved the problem what to wear on formal occasions, now the question came up what kind of coat might fit to this look.

_ the classics
the two examples by Gucci show a very classic cut of an overcoat which is suitable for formal occasions. You can combine it with a suit or as shown with some elegant pullover underneath. If you have a look at the materials, there is once again the play with contrasts: once with warm and cool colours and the strong pattern of the tie, and in the other example the different textiles which give the black a different kind of depth.

_ light shades in different shapes
as I have shown you before, Salvatore Ferragamo has chosen very light shades for the grey season. The style of the coat is a classical trench as we know from Colombo, but in different kind of heavier textures which makes it suitable for cooler temperatures.

_ warm colours and materials
a more casual look give those jackets and coats by Gucci which stand out in the choice of material.

_ jackets from elegant to rebel
for those who don't feel to confortable in a coat, here are some elegantly cut jackets by Salvatore Ferragamo in earthy warm colours which he uses in combination of different kind of shades.

more Dior - the vintage look

Lately I got intrigued by the vintage style. I think it is the glamour and femininity especially of the 20's, 40's and 50's which I like most. And obviously it's not just me who finds inspirations in former eras.

The pictures are from Dior's current Ready-to-Wear collection and they combine elements from different eras. Besides the clothes, I especially like the hair style which reminds me of my young grandmother.

Here the accessoiries for the hair play an important role which are typically some feathers or a little hat which accomplishes the look.
The accent in the make-up lies in the beautiful red lips and very light shades for the eyes.

brands and label mania

When I picked up my friend from the railway station, I saw a girl with a fake Gucci bag and I started wondering why people actually buy some obvious imitations, (though you can't even call it like this.)
In this case it was an ordinary red shoulder bag with huge "Gucci-logo" which would have been completely acceptable without the logo.

I have shown you a lot of examples from fashion designers under the label "trends and inspirations", because this it what they mean to me. They are inspirations. I love to browse through magazines and watch fashion shows to get ideas for my own style. I look for colours, materials and prints, accessoires, hairstyle and make-up.

I think clothes don't need to be expensive to be stylish; and not everything with a brand name is automatically fashionable and flatters the person who wears it.
For the post of men's business wear for example we went with a friend through a couple of pictures from various designers and we choose the ones we liked most and started to analyse what the basic trends are. Later we went through my friend's closet and created three different outfits out of his existing clothes and decided to buy a sweater and another tie to make the looks complete.

I wish people would be more aware of what they like and what suits them instead of hiding behind big names.

rockabilly

Have you heard about the french rockabilly band Mustang? If you are not scared of a mixture of 50s music and french lyrics, you should try this!

Rockabilly is not just about music, but also about style. Main infuence comes from the early Rock N' Roll scene of the 1950s where artists created a new style of music inspired by the black music in the Southern States of the US.
I have introduced you already before to the Irish singer Imelda May who combines Rock N' Roll with elements of boogie and blues and whose style is inspired by the fashion of the 50s, with pencil skirts and dresses as one can see in her videos.

And I so need a pencil skirt!!!

business look for men

I have already asked once, what to wear in office life and I found some inspiration for women from Iceberg.
But what should men wear? I guess we women have it a bit easier as we are obviously the peacocks of our species and a men who dares to differ from the mass is watched with sceptic. Is man allowed to be fashionable? I would say yes!!!
The question is how do we like our men to look like? -Elegant, sporty, masculine? What is the colour palette? What different cuts and materials are there to choose from? And what kind of accessoires should men wear? A lot of questions... so I had a look around and would like to show you some examples.

_the elegant look
I have choosen two examples from Gucci which I like because of their colour play. The first suit is black and the accents are created by the petrol shirt and a tie in the complementary colour purple. In the second outfit suit and tie are matching and the light grey gets some freshness through the pink shirt.

_a little bit of macho
Other good examples I found from Salvatore Ferragamo. His collection is a bit more masculine and in some cases even a bit macho. I liked in those two examples the variaton of shades. The first outfit is very light in beige and white and the second one plays with different shades of blue. Both are elegant and a bit more sporty.

_all about pattern
I guess most people are a bit afraid of patterns. But here are again two nice examples from Gucci. The outfits are very similar in their colours as the main theme is black and white. The pattern breaks the severeness of those strong contrasts. And this summer look even works without a tie. But I do feel a little envy about the red bag!

Gucci
Spring/ Summer 2012

Salvatore Ferragamo is not so carefull with the use of patterns. He uses strong colours and bold stripes to create a new Al Capone look in dark green and rust brown.

_asseccoires
Especially in the examples by Gucci, the slightly "old-fashioned" handkerchief plays a big role and experiences a rejuvenation in striking colours and patterns. You might have also noticed that the ties are used here without any pattern.

Fall/ Winter 2011

I have to admit that I am now a bit more intrigued in men's wear and I will continue my search, because at the weekend we went with these images in mind through my friends closet and found some suprisingly good matches, we have never been thinking of before.
